The purpose of developing CAL resources
Well this a blast from the past. I was sorting through some old documents the other day and came across a critique I had written on the development of CAL (computer aided learning) material during the 1990s. This later formed part of my PhD thesis. This document is only 30 pages or so in length, but as I remember the original ran for nearly 100 pages (a full quarter of the PhD). So it had to be cut down in length which is a shame as it had more detail on various Government led initiatives etc.
Anyhow this document looks at the various reasons behind the fever of CAL production in the UK during the early to mid’90s. It looks at the common reasons for CAL development including some rather delusional promises and the actual harsh realities (hint: if your using learning technology as a means to reduce workload - it wont…).
Anyway if you fancy a trip down memory lane just open the attached file. And comments are welcome
