Problem playing MP3 files? Here’s the solution

More of technical announcement rather than anything else. Staff have reported problems when trying to play MP3 files in Internet Explorer. Basically an error message appears citing an issue with QuickTime and the browser crashes. This problem relates to an issue of file type handling between Internet Explorer and QuickTime. It’s not a problem exclusive to StudyNet and indeed happens for other websites external to the UH.

To fix the problem:

Go to START and select Control Panel.

Click on the QuickTime icon and select the ‘Browser’ tab. At the bottom click on MIME settings.

Tick the box for ‘MP3 – MPEG Layer III Movies and streams’ .

Click ‘OK’ and then click on ‘Apply’ and then ‘OK’.

Re start you browser. When you try to play the file it should now work fine within the browser.
